Training Courses

In order to help you to improve STACK can offer a number of different training programmes, hopefully one of which is bound to suit your needs.

Better Flying Days

This is a day or afternoon where a bunch of like-minded individual flyers get together to learn from each other. This is often trick related rather than precision, but there is normally someone there with experience in most aspects of flying.

STACK can organize this, but often they are run by local kite clubs or organized by members of the Fractured Axel web-forum (a great resource for all things sport kite related, especially in the UK).

Please get in touch if you would like a STACK coach to come along to help at your better flying day - see the Contacts page.

Team Flying Days

A variation on the Better Flying Day, the purpose of this day is to allow attendees to try flying in a team or pair. The day consists of coaching, leading to flying in a team of 3 or 4 kites. If there are sufficient participants, there will also be an opportunity to fly in a mega-team. Coaching is provided by experienced team flyers.

STACK organizes one or two of these days each year. They are normally free, or with a small contribution for site fees.

If you would like to be put on the list for the next team flying day please let us know - see the Contacts page.

Coaching Day

Coaching days are available, and can be tailored to your specific needs. In this case a STACK coach would come to you, and spend the day focussing of the specific skills that you want to improve.

The cost of this is just what is required to cover the coach's travelling expenses.

Normally there would be 3 or 4 people involved, or a single team or pair.

For a team or pair in order for the day to be effective they must have some existing experience of flying togarther, and ideally an idea of the areas they would like to improve.

If you would like to arrange a coaching day please contact us - see the Contacts page. We look forward to hearing from you.

Boot Camp

This is a more formal training course teaching the basics of pair and team flying, usually over 2 days.

Over the years STACK has run a number of "Boot Camps" where the skills required to compete in STACK events are taught. In recent years it is fair to say that 90% of current competitors have come through this school.

A few years ago, it became clear that the cost was becoming prohibitive (several hundred pounds). The course was residential, held at Weston-Super-Mare, and not only did pupils have to pay for their own accommodation, but also for the coaches'.

To alleviate the costs, a new format was devised. In this, STACK comes to you. This reduces the accommodation costs. It is up to you, the pupils, to organise accomodation for the coaches (usually one per pair or team), and to pay for food for the coaches. The most recent such boot camp (in Cardiff) cost well under aq hundred pounds, much less than cost previously charged.

STACK provides all of the equipment (kites and lines) needed to fly in pretty much any conditions above 3 mph wind and below 25mph, so no excuses for not flying. Just remember the warm waterproof clothes, as normally the camps happen in the off season, September to April.

This course is aimed at fliers who wish to learn how to fly as a pair or as part of a team, the only requirement is the ability to fly an infinity or two. It is not a trick flying school (for this check out Fractured Axel, a web forum dedicate to sport kite flying, and specifically trick flying).

If you require more information on STACK boot camps please contact us - see the Contacts page. Again, we look forward to hearing from you.
